Investing in Times of Climate Change

“Environmentally conscious investors, it can be overwhelming to know where to invest. Recently, research firm Morningstar published this thorough report that breaks down the world of climate-aware funds into five groups: low carbon, climate conscious, climate solutions, green bond, and clean energy/tech. It’s a comprehensive compass to help fuel more informed and impactful investment decisions.”

Drones and the Future

“In this fun conversation, Redwing Labs co-founder Anshul Sharma joins Roopa Kumar, COO of the tech-based search firm, Purple Quarter, to discuss regulations and the state of drone delivery in India. It’s an enlightening talk about the future of this critical service. “

Accelerating Health Equity

Path is a global nonprofit improving public health that I recently supported. Currently, there is a dire need for medical oxygen in India that is increasing 6 to 8 percent daily. “

Book Smart

“As we face critical global challenges, what if women could use their investments to build a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable world? Author and strategic advisor Jessica Robinson aims to answer this question in her latest book, Financial Feminism: A Woman’s Guide to Investing for a Sustainable Future.”

‘It Felt So Freeing’

“This comprehensive newsletter from The Fuller Project, a non-profit platform dedicated to reporting women’s stories, is about the contraceptive pill, arguably one of the more important scientific developments of the 20th century. It sheds light on how and why we have become complacent with the -at times - devastating side effects. The Fuller Project is proving to be a real pioneer in journalism.”

Progress in Rwanda

“Through Beyond Capital portfolio company Kasha, and our profile on them here on The Conscious Investor, we know how much easy access to critical health products can make a difference in a woman's life. So I was thrilled to see the Rwandan government take yet another progressive step to support women's health by removing the VAT tax on sanitary products.”

Breaking Barriers

“The World Trade Organization's own glass ceiling was broken this year with Ngozi Okonjo Iweala appointed as its leader. She is now also the WTO's first African leader and may usher in a new era of policies that could have deep impact on trade between countries.”

80,000 Hours

“How many times have you asked yourself: What should I do with my career to have the most impact? Or: There are so many problems in the world, which should I focus on? Well, researchers at Oxford have put together a resource precisely answering the question of what to do with the 80,000 hours that comprise a typical career. “

Standing In Truth

“Over the last couple of weeks, since the verdict of Derek Chauvin; I've felt perplexed. I’m struggling to make sense of it all.

On one hand, I'm glad that officer Chauvin is being held accountable for his actions that lead to the death of George Floyd. On the other hand, my heart hurts for his family and their loss as well. To me, this was not a win! Now, another family is grieving a loss, albeit not loss by death; it is still a loss.

Racism does not only affect the lives of those being victimized by racism but it affects everyone. In my opinion, we have lost two lives: George Floyd & Derek Chauvin.

I know many people disagree with my thoughts and feelings on this but I stand in my truth. Racism hurts everyone!”

Atrocities of War

“The Vietnam War ended more than four decades ago but its debilitating consequences continue to haunt generations. In her exquisite essay for the New York Times, ‘America, Please Don’t Forget the Victims of Agent Orange,’ journalist and novelist Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai pushes the costs of this war to the forefront, highlighting the fact that millions in Southeast Asia are living with deformities linked to the dioxin used in the war—for which they have never seen any compensation from the US government. This is a haunting and necessary op-ed.”

Decoding Identity

“We live in a world that is filled with arbitrary pillars of what makes a good life—obtaining a respected job, building a coveted network, gaining the respect of others—that it’s easy to lose track of what we really want. Rather than following our hearts we chase what is expected of us. I love how Rainesford Stauffer focuses on this in her new book, An Ordinary Age. The brilliant writer examines the pressures of pursuits of today, which are particularly intense for young generations. Fully empathetic and revealing, this book is a compass for finding our North Star and what truly matters.”
