The Program Moving the Needle Toward a More Peaceful, Just, Humane World
Often the most impactful part of conventional investing is the when the exchange of capital happens.
A decision is made, papers are signed, and a wish that it will deliver a return is made. It is an exhilarating moment. And it is also short-lived. No matter how deeply researched or well-intentioned the investment, it will inevitably lose some of its magnitude and thrill.
Unless the investment is one that has the potential to impact those beyond the investor and company. If the money given is put toward endeavors working to create solutions to humanity's most pressing issues, and striving to make the world a more just, sustainable, and charitable place. That is the potential of impact investing.
Impact investing may seem like a concept that is meant for those with seemingly endless resources. The opposite is true. Impact investing is available to anyone interested—and one way to start is with the Beyond Capital Ambassador Program. Founded in 2018, the Beyond Capital Ambassador Program is a community and movement working to improve the lives of the more than 4.1 million people—2.8 million of whom are women—living below the poverty line. It is an extension of Beyond Capital, an impact investing fund co-founded by Eva and Hooman Yazhari.
When the Yazharis founded Beyond Capital more than ten years ago, part of their mission was to make impact investing more accessible. They wanted to create interesting ways to engage people through their work of investing in for-profit companies in East Africa and India that are striving to alleviate poverty and improve access to health care. Since the launch of the Ambassador Program, the community of ambassadors has grown to include passionate professionals from widely varying backgrounds, industries, and countries, from a social responsibility consultant to a pharmaceutical company CEO.
The Ambassador Program offers three powerful elements: an accessible entry point to becoming an impact investor; continued education on the topic of impact investing and endeavors working to better the world; and opportunities to build relationships with global professionals. The program works by referral, invitation, and application. (Future ambassadors are asked to reflect on their personal values and ambassador goals through the application process.) After evaluation and approval by the Beyond Capital team, a $1,500 minimum annual donation is required. This capital will be invested overtime into numerous social enterprises, magnifying its impact for years to come.
Ambassadors will have the opportunity to engage with the Beyond Capital team and portfolio on a more intimate level. The Program offers access to exclusive content, monthly networking and educational events, and opportunities to engage with entrepreneurs in the fields of social and environmental impact. It is the doorway to a movement collectively working toward the greater good. Impact investing can lead to incredible change, a world of learning, and relationships that transcend cultures and geography.
It is a means of investing money that leaves an indelible mark the moment the exchange of capital happens—and has effects that last well into the future.
